Taking Control of Your Anger

Anger is a natural emotion — a healthy part of being human. In fact, being able to feel and express anger is important.

But anger becomes a problem when it starts showing up in ways that feel too intense, too fast, or out of proportion to what’s happening.

When this happens you might find yourself:

  • Reaching a ‘boiling point’ and flipping out
  • Having a ‘short fuse’ and reacting too quickly
  • Getting excessively angry at things you can’t control
  • Being much angrier than the situation deserves
  • Taking frustration out on the wrong people — like bringing work stress home
  • Misreading others’ actions as personal attacks
  • Struggling to calm down once you're angry

These are common experiences — and you’re not alone.

The good news is that it’s possible to understand and change what’s driving your anger.
You can learn how to slow it down, step back from it, and handle things differently.

Reset the Alarm

One way to understand problematic anger is that it's like a fire alarm that goes off too easily — it blares at the slightest sign of smoke. The alarm isn’t bad — it’s trying to protect you or those around you. But when it goes off every time someone lights a candle, it becomes exhausting and causes disruption.

What’s needed is a kind of reset.

A chance to understand what's really going on inside, and take a fresh look at how you're perceiving situations.

When this happens, your system can start to respond more calmly and accurately — rather than reacting out of old patterns or unseen stresses.

I used to see red at the smallest thing — I couldn't even take banter. Speaking to Alastair helped me go from a pit bull to now where I just laugh things off. My whole mindset has changed. I feel like a completely different person.

Working with Alastair was genuinely transformative. I’m calmer, my relationships are stronger, and everyday life is more enjoyable. The biggest difference? I don’t lose it anymore — especially with my family. I feel like a better version of myself.

How I Help with Anger

Everything we do together will be practical — getting to the heart of what drives your anger and helping you gain greater control, right from the start.

Resolving anger happens by looking inwards at how you interpret and respond to situations. I will be a guide to help you to:

  • Identify thinking patterns that generate excessive anger — and how to see situations more clearly.
  • Reflect on beliefs and assumptions that may be fuelling your reactions.
  • Come to peace with situations you can't change.
  • Find greater self-understanding that allows you to feel more at ease and in control.

We always begin with what’s current for you. That might be how you’re feeling:

  • at work
  • at home with your family
  • or in another specific situation

Or we might begin by exploring something that happened — something you don’t want to repeat.

As we work through these experiences, I’ll help you slow things down, reflect, and learn to respond in ways that feel more in line with who you really are and how you want to be.

My approach draws from two powerful models:

  • Data Point Coaching — helping you find moments of insight that reshape how you experience the world
  • NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) — a powerful model for working with emotional regulation and identity

This work is never about being negative about anger. It’s about understanding it — and reclaiming your ability to act from clarity, not just reactivity.

Trauma-Informed: I have extensive training and experience in helping people resolve trauma. It’s not uncommon for past experiences to come up when working with anger — and if they do, I can help you navigate them safely and effectively. Click here to learn about my background and experience.
